A thought about truth
October 22, 2007
I came up with this in response to a blog asking “Is an omission a lie?” I’m not sure I should answer that person’s blog, so I’m posting this here, because I want to think about it more later.
I’m not sure the question can be answered without a concrete definition for what is otherwise a subjective value. A more interesting question, in my experience is, can one avoid omitting information that distorts their personal narrative beyond another individual’s recognizable truth? Is there any common ground of truth that can be reached? In my experience, truth is impossible except in the context of one’s solipsism.
Whew!

I just finished the 4th exam in as many weeks. I’m ready to not have an exam on my horizon, but alas, there is another calculus exam next week. Then I actually get about 10 days before I have to take another exam! Dang!
USA 10-miler

My time, 1:20:32, was an 8-min. improvement on last year–felt good. This poor woman tried to pass me in the last 30 yards of the course, and having been passed by about 2 others, I didn’t let her. Sorry, lady.
The thing I really wanted to blog about, though, was the course took us passed a street called “Memory Lane.” One one side of the tiny and overgrown, but paved pathway, was a sign bearing the street name, on the other was a sign boldly declaring, “No Outlet.” I ran by thinking, “Isn’t that the truth?”

Cool iTunes feature
October 4, 2007
I’ve never tried it before, but iTunes can fix scratched CDs. I found that out on accident because I have a copy of OK Computer by Radiohead that has been scratched since day 1. I was moving it over to my iPod and discovered that it fixed the scratched tracks. So now, I’m re-burning–having imported the tracks as .wav files, whereby, they are fixed. I’m now going to try it with some other discs. I’m sure it won’t work for all, but if even a few are fixed, I’ll be thrilled.
